Miracle Morning Routine

Do you have a morning routine?

I didn't, until I did. And it changed whether my mornings were relaxed, grounded and happy or rushed, disorganised, and (I'm ashamed to say) sometimes shouty at my kids.

I used to wake up the very last minute that I could (unless my kids woke me up before that and had me groggily asking them to leave me alone).

What changed it all for me was reading a book called The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod, a few years ago.

In his book Elrod speaks about the acronym S.A.V.E.R.S. “guaranteed to save you from a life of unfulfilled potential” and advocates spending from 1-10 minutes on each section.

They stand for:

  • Silence
  • Affirmations
  • Visualisation
  • Exercise
  • Reading
  • Scribing (writing would not have fitted the acronym!)

Here’s an example of a Miracle Morning (it doesn’t need to be in any particular order)

  • SILENCE: Meditation. I recommend the calm app.
  • AFFIRMATION: Affirm what you want your day to look like, how you want to feel e.g. "I am calm and confident."
  • VISUALISATION: Visualise your goals, both for the day or your long term goals.
  • EXERCISE: 10 minutes of yoga (try my wake up yoga video here) or HIIT is incredibly effective.
  • READING: Read a page of an uplifting text, or even listen to something inspiring whilst you're getting ready.
  • SCRIBING: Write down how you're feeling, or send a loving text to someone.

But you don't even have to follow all the suggestions. All you need to do is get up before you really need to: TO START THE DAY ON YOUR TERMS.

I consider it a win if I have got up dressed, made my bed, brushed my teeth, and done 10 minutes of meditation all before my kids wake up. I  feel I have started the day in the most effective way imaginable: energised, calm, focused, and clear of what I need to get done.

If you’d like to:
  • Feel more productive
  • Have more energy
  • Have greater focus

To the night owls out there....

I consider myself a night owl too. I love the quiet of the whole house asleep. But guess what, it's the same in the morning, except it's even better as I'm working with the rhythm of the day, rather than against it. Plus, I feel it's a better start for my girls too because I'm present, attentive, and able to help them start their day, rather than focus on me. All because I've filled my cup first!
